After getting swept by the Athletics in the two games at Petco Park, the Padres hope to have more luck on the road as they continue the home-and-home series in Oakland tonight.
It'll be Odrisamer Despaigne on the mound for the first game at the Coliseum. Despaigne is coming off one of his better starts of the season. He kept the Dodger to two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk, striking out five batters in 6 1/3 innings of work. This will be his first career appearance against the A's.
Jesse Chavez will take the mound for Oakland, making his 15th appearance and 11th start of the season. As a member of the A's rotation, Chavez is 2-6 this season with a 2.91 ERA, the eighth-lowest mark in the AL. He has faced the Padres six times in his career, but never as a starter. In 5 1/3 combined innings against San Diego, he's allowed three runs - all earned.
