Game 67 Preview: 06/16 Padres vs. Athletics

The Padres finish their half of the home-and-home series with the Athletics this afternoon, hoping to rebound from a lousy series opener last night. After their 9-1 beatdown, hopefully Andrew Cashner can keep the A's off the board and the Padres can even up the series.

June has been Cashner's worst month of the season so far. In three starts he's gone 0-1, allowing 17 runs (16 earned) through 17 combined innings. He's only made one career appearance against Oakland: a one-hit, 1-1/3-inning relief outing back in June 2010 as a member of the Cubs.

Opposing Cashner and hoping to lead the A's to a Petco Park sweep, Scott Kazmir takes the mound, looking for his fourth win of the season.  He's coming off his best start of the season, an eight-inning one-hitter against the Rangers. He's had a decent year so far, going 3-4 with a 2.79 ERA through his first 12 starts.  Kazmir's only prior outing against the Padres was all the way back in 2007 as a pitcher for Tampa Bay. He gave up four runs on nine hits through six innings of work and got a no-decision.
