Dave Roberts gets his first start as interim manager for the Padres tonight as the team opens up a home-and-home series against the Athletics.

The Padres are coming off a rough series loss against the Dodgers.  With Bud Black no longer at the helm, tonight's game is the start of a new era of Padres baseball.  To kick it off, two pitchers will make their first career starts against their former teams.

Tyson Ross will take the mound for San Diego, facing the team that drafted him back in 2008.  A year after making his first career All-Star team, Ross is struggling to repeat the success he experienced in 2014. So far this season he's 3-6 with a 3.81 ERA.  He's coming off a loss against the Braves where he pitched six innings and allowed three runs while striking out five batters.

Jesse Hahn isn't doing much better than his former teammate. In 12 starts this season, he is 3-5 with a 3.84 ERA. But he's coming off his worst outing of the season, a 3-2/3-inning appearance against the Rangers that saw him give up four earned runs with no strike outs. It was his shortest start since his ML debut with the Padres last season. Ross isn't getting much help from his defense, who have accounted for an AL-leading eight unearned runs this season.
