Jersey Day SD is TODAY!

There is no better universal symbol of fanhood than the jersey. Much moreso than shirts, jackets, baseball caps, or any other piece of clothing, jerseys are the best way for people to show off their allegiances and make statements about their loyalties.

Today, we celebrate the jersey in San Diego. Sponsored by Majestic, Jersey Day is a way for people to express their passion for baseball, show off their team loyalty, and support their favorite player. Majestic partnered with MLB and all 30 major league teams to bring Jersey Day to each stadium, splitting up the occasion into two separate days in order for each team to have a chance to celebrate at home.

In appreciation of Gaslamp Ball's apparently big influence amongst Padres fans, Majestic was cool enough to give us a custom jersey for the blog, which jbox received in the mail on Tuesday.  We'd love to share it with all of you, so there's a good chance it'll be the next Traveling Jersey to see the world while gracing the shoulders of Gaslamp Ballers all across the globe.

Majestic is also holding contests to encourage people to show their team pride and participate in Jersey Day. If you're on social media, just use the hashtag #JerseyDaySD to "vote" for the Padres on Twitter and Instagram. As of 12pm today, the Padres were 26th in votes. But there's still time to move up, and you can vote an unlimited number of times, so just stick that hashtag at the end of all your tweets and Instagram posts for the rest of the day to keep the votes coming.

Fans can also enter the Jersey Day SuperFan contest for a chance to win prizes such as Majestic gift cards or game tickets. To enter, just go to MajesticJerseyDay.com and sign in with your Twitter, Facebook, and/or Instagram profiles to start earning entries. For those not on social media, you can enter by sending an email to Superfan@MajesticJerseyDay.com. Just make sure to include #JerseyDaySD in the subject line and your full name and phone number in the body.

So, Gaslamp Ballers, wear your jerseys with pride today. Whether your choice is brown, blue, sand, or camo; Tony Gwynn, Justin Upton, or customized with your own name. Let's stand united and support our Friars today.

Our fave, Matt Vasgersian, is already getting in on the fun. Here he is sporting a beautiful 1980 Padres road jersey.

The fact that he's wearing it underneath an A's jersey just means he prefers the Padres to be closer to his heart. Love you, Matty V.
