The series between the Padres and Angels concludes tonight, and the winner of the finale will win the series altogether. San Diego gives the ball to Andrew Cashner to close out the three-game set while the Angels send Garrett Richards to the hill.
Cashner is coming off a strong outing against the Dodgers in which he gave up one run on five hits, though it did take him 109 pitches to get through the six innings of work. The right-hander has been solid this season, but he's been plagued with poor defense and a lack of offensive support. Through his first nine starts, he's been charged with 12 unearned runs while receiving only 15 total runs of support, leading to a 1-7 record on the season despite his 2.89 ERA. Cashner has faced the Angels three times in his career - all in relief capacities totaling three scoreless innings of work.
Richards, on the other hand, has never pitched against the Padres. He's coming off his worst outing of the season, though he still got the win after allowing a season-high five runs on nine hits and striking out a season-low of one batter through six innings of work. Overall in 2015, Richards is 4-2 with a 2.98 ERA through seven starts.
The series finale gets underway at 7:05 pm PT.
