The Padres will try to salvage a win today as they close out the series against the Dodgers in L.A. And there's no one better to help them accomplish that than James Shields, who's been by far the most reliable pitcher on the staff in 2015.
In his first nine starts as a Padre, Shields is 5-0 with a 3.74 ERA. He pitched against the Dodgers on Opening Day, going six innings while allowing only two runs on six hits and collecting eight strikeouts. He didn't factor into the decision in that game, nor in his only other career appearance against L.A.
Taking the mound for the Dodgers will be Carlos Frias, who has faced the Padres three times in his career, but never as a starter. Frias is 3-1 this season with a 2.55 ERA in six outings (four starts). That includes a relief apearance against San Diego on April 26th, when he pitched a scoreless inning on the way to a Dodgers loss.
Tune in at 1:10 pm PT to see the conclusion of the series.
