The Padres have the same record as last year

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

This season had so much going for it before it started, but the more things change the more they stay the same in Padres land.  I'm as surprised as anyone that we sit here after the 42nd game with the same record that the pitiful 2014 team had.  It doesn't seem possible.  The players seem so much better when their names are written on paper.

Still I've already had a hell of a lot more fun this year than all of last combined.  I think part of it is because attempting to score hasn't seemed so futile.  Yet, when we actually look at the runs in the first 42 games they've dipped in recent weeks and not as impressive as they were.  They're much better than in 2014, but the pitching was better back then too.

Speaking of pitching, the 2015 Padres are still being shutout at a really high rate, which wasn't supposed to happen.  With 7 they already have more than the 1990, 1994, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2004 and 2006 teams had in their entire season.
