The Padres opened up their four-game set against the Nationals with a rain-delayed win last night featuring some fun offense and a solid performance from Tyson Ross. Tonight, weather permitting once again, they look to clinch at least a series split as Odrisamer Despaigne takes the mound against Jordan Zimmermann.

This will be Despaigne's fourth start of the season, and eighth appearance overall. He struggled his last time out, giving up eight earned runs on ten hits to Arizona. This will be his first time facing the Nationals in his career. Zimmermann, on the other hand, has pitched against the Padres seven times in his career, going 2-2 with a 1.90 ERA. He last faced them on June 8th, 2014, when he threw a two-hit shutout.

Both teams are 19-17 on the season and in second place in their respective divisions. The Nats are 1 1/2 games behind the NL-East-leading Mets while the Padres are four games back of the Dodgers.

See if either team gets closer to the top tonight at 7:10 pm PT.
