Ever since A.J. Preller's trading spree in December it has been known that the Padres have too many outfielders. Many could envision the Padres dealing Carlos Quentin or Cameron Maybin in order to break up the logjam. Maybe some even speculated they could trade both since they would be back up OFs making $8M and $7M respectively. I don't think anyone envisioned even Preller could trade both in one trade and get back the best closer in baseball. But, it appears he did.
Fangraphs.com writer Kiley McDaniel had the scoop:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>So, as best I understand it now, ATL sends Kimbrel and BJ Upton to SD for Carlos Quentin, Cameron Maybin, Matt Wisler and Jordan Paroubeck</p>— Kiley McDaniel (@kileymcd) <a href="https://twitter.com/kileymcd/status/584842903073071105">April 5, 2015</a></blockquote>

It is also being reported that the Padres included their 2015 #41 overall pick in the deal. The pick is tradeable because it was awarded as a competitive balance selection and those have been deemed the only tradeable picks.
Corey Brock has confirmed the deal.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Confirmed: <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Padres?src=hash">#Padres</a> get Upton, Kimbrel. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Braves?src=hash">#Braves</a> get Carlos Quentin, Cameron Maybin, Wisler, draft pick No. 41 and Minor League OF Paroubeck.</p>— Corey Brock (@FollowThePadres) <a href="https://twitter.com/FollowThePadres/status/584845273899278336">April 5, 2015</a></blockquote>
