"It is an honor to recognize Lt. Col. Jerry Coleman during the dedication and transformation of the former Semper Fit Field House to the Jerry Coleman Center," said Thomas Spencer, director of MCRD San Diego’s Marine Corps Community Services.
"He was a great ballplayer and Marine, and a true gentleman," Spencer said. "He was an outstanding Marine officer and it reflected both on and off the field. This dedication is absolutely befitting. They simply do not come any finer than Jerry Coleman."
Padres Chairman Ron Fowler and Maggie Coleman were at MCRD for the ceremony and County Supervisor Ron Roberts was there to capture the moment and post it to Twitter.
