The Padres will try to prevent a second consecutive series loss as they take on the Astros tonight in game 2 of the three-game set.
Tyson Ross takes the mound to try to even up the series. Through four starts this season, the right-hander is 1-1 with a 3.97 ERA. His last time out he really struggled - despite allowing only two runs overall, he had to use 106 pitches to get through five innings at Coors Field. Tonight will be his first career appearance against Houston.
The AL-West-leading Astros look to improve to 13-7 on the season, all while helping Roberto Hernandez to his first win of 2015. Despite a couple of quality starts, Hernandez is 0-2 with a 3.57 ERA over his first three outings this season. He lost both of his starts against the Padres in 2014, allowing nine runs through eight total innings of work, and is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA over three lifetime starts against them.
But the Padres have cooled down considerably lately, hitting just .219 while losing five of their last six games. Prior to that, they had won nine of 11 while batting .309 and averaging six runs per game.
