Game 7 Preview: 03/12 Padres vs. Giants

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The Padres offense broke out against the reigning World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner last night, securing at least a series split against the Giants. Today they'll hopefully send Bochy and co. packing as the losers of the four-game set.

But first, the Padres need to get past Jake Peavy and give Tyson Ross some of that run support we saw for James Shields. Peavy returns to his old home on the mound at Petco Park for the first time since 2009, and the first time as a visitor. The former Friar went 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA with the Red Sox last season before returning to the National League as a pitcher for the Giants. He finished his season going 4-0 with a 1.15 ERA over his last six starts of the regular season.

Tyson Ross pitched well in his season debut last Wednesday, going six innings and keeping the Dodgers to two runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts to earn the win. The right-hander is 8-7 with a 1.93 ERA all-time at Petco Park, but 2-2 with a 3.78 ERA in seven career games (five starts) against the Giants. The last time he faced them in San Diego, he kept them scoreless and limited their offense to four hits while striking out nine in eight innings of work.

The finale gets underway at 1:10 pm PT.
