Last night the Padres offense clicked to get a come-from-behind win against the Rockies despite a shaky outing from starter James Shields. This afternoon they'll send Tyson Ross to the mound to hopefully have more success against today's opponent.
The team travels to Surprise to take on the Rangers in a 1:05 pm PT game. Ross will be making his fifth Spring start and is expected to throw around 80 pitches, according to Corey Brock. For some context going into today's matchup, Ross has thrown 12 2/3 innings with a 2.84 ERA this Spring, allowing a total of six runs (four earned) on eight hits. He's also walked six batters, but struck out twice as many.
The Rangers, coming off a ninth-inning loss against the Athletics, will send a bunch of relievers to the mound against the Padres this afternoon. They'll start with Jon Edwards for at least two innings. The righty has appeared in eight games this Spring for a total of 8 2/3 innings, pitching to the tune of a 2.08 ERA.
