Tonight we take it back to the 85th game of the 2014 season...
Our Padres have already clinched a series win against the Reds and they're going for their second sweep of the week. The first game of the series, the Padres collected A SINGLE HIT between them, but still came out with a win against their former teammate, Mat Latos. But last night they were a collective hitting machine, notching a season-high 16 against SD-born Mike Leake, so who knows what this team will come up with this afternoon. They've only recently taken over the third place spot in the NL West, and in this series finale they look to Tyson Ross to keep them there.
Hopefully they can give Ross more support today than he's grown unfortunately accustomed to. The righty is 0-4 with a 3.94 ERA in 32 innings of work over his last five starts while receiving one paltry run of support through that entire stretch.
He'll be facing Johnny Cueto, who leads all of MLB in ERA (1.88), innings pitched (124 1/3), and WHIP (0.84) while boasting the second most strikeouts (122) in the NL. He is 3-0 in his last four starts, including an 8-1/3-inning of two-run ball against the Giants his last time out. But if the first two games in this series are any indication, our Padres are an unpredictable force of nature and I'm looking forward to seeing how they pull off the win this time.
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!! COMPLETE THE SWEEP!!
