James Shields is OFFICIALLY, FOR REAL a Padres pitcher

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The news has been coming since late Sunday night, but it's finally here. The Padres have officially announced the signing of James Shields. Shields will get four years and $75 million, with a $16 million club option for a fifth year.

There is still the matter of making room for him on the 40-man roster, but that announcement is yet to come.

And to make it even MORE official, the Padres will hold a press conference at 3:30 PT today at Petco Park.

The press conference will be shown on Fox Sports San Diego, as well as streamed live online here.

Update:

We now know the corresponding roster move.
