You may have seen yesterday that it's likely that Padres reliever Marcos Mateo will be headed to Japan. Mateo played in 26 games with the Padres with a 4.00 ERA. It was his first playing time in the major leagues since his first stint with the Cubs in 2010-2011. じゃあね
Mateo has an agreement in place with the Hanshin Tigers, a source confirmed. The deal is pending a physical, which Mateo underwent Tuesday.
Dennis Lin of the UT says that the Padres already have a replacement in the form of recently acquired reliever Buddy Baumann. Preller sounds cautiously optimistic about his skills.
"He’s a guy that we watched this year," Padres General Manager A.J. Preller said. "(Special assignment scout) Steve Lyons was big in terms of recommending him. He may not have big stats, but he’s a competitor, a strike-thrower, has started and relieved, attacks with a good fastball."
Admittedly, not the most exciting Padres news, but what you gonna do?
