Well, the title pretty much says it all, huh? After seemingly getting hired to be the Nationals' next manager, then getting insultingly low-balled, Bud Black wound up on the short list for the Dodgers job until word came out last night that the candidates had been whittled down to Gabe Kapler and Black's former bench coach, Dave Roberts. With the well of managerial openings gone dry, Black returned to Anaheim, where he was the pitching coach for seven seasons before being hired by the Padres prior to the 2007 season.
Word came down just before 2pm, via Angels beat writer Alden Gonzalez. It's not official official yet, but I'm going to assume that the Angels and Black have agreed to contract terms. You know, lesson learned, and all that.
Source: Bud Black is rejoining the Angels, as well. He'll be in their front office, probably as a special assistant.
