Mark Kotsay takes bench coach job with Athletics

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Last season's Padres coaches all believe they deserve a managerial position and are scattering in the wind after they were passed over in San Diego for the second time.  There were rumors that there was some animosity within the staff and they didn't work well together after Bud Black was fired and Pat Murphy was installed as an interim instead of one of them.  Dave Roberts has already made his intentions clear that he's not coming back, now Mark Kotsay too is gone.  Kotsay will become the new bench coach for the Oakland Athletics after one year as hitting coach with the Padres.

Kotsay has only one year of major-league coaching experience, but during his playing days, he was seen as manager material.

Kotsay played all over the league as a player and he'll probably keep moving as a coach too until he gets the coveted job as a manager.
