A rumor on Twitter turned into a possible Padres offseason storyline tonight. The Padres are attempting to take an early lead in the offseason championship race as they hope to repeat last year's victory. As a fan, you know the organization hasn't had a real shortstop since Khalil Greene and it's proven to be terrible weakness. GM A.J. Preller is looking to fix that by talking to the Braves about Andrelton Simmons.
It all started when the mysterious Jonah Keri hinted that a mysterious NL West team was in deep talks with the Braves about a mysterious player.. So mysterious!

Soon after it was revealed the player being considered was Andrelton Simmons, but it must surely be the Dodgers or Giants going after him.

But no, it wasn't the Giants and now signs were pointing towards San Diego.
Checked in with all 5 NLW teams. Not the Giants. Simmons' involvement makes me think San Diego...but not sure. https://t.co/41x5xfTMuB

If San Diego were to get Simmons, it would come at a price and that would be mean Hunter Renfroe and/or Austin Hedges.
Would think any conversation, if it's the Padres, starts with Renfroe and Hedges. https://t.co/rQQPSYnUUa

Then Dennis Lin of the Union-Tribune confirmed that San Diego was one of the teams involved in the talks, but the talks didn't sound quite as deep as Keri had alluded to.

What more could the Padres give? They'd traded all their young talent last year, well except for Refroe and Hedges which Corey Brock previously mentioned.
#Padres need SS. Simmons signed thru ’20. But after last winter, what do Pads have left to give - and would they deal with #Braves again?

There are other teams involved, but they remain a mystery.
