AFL Game Thread: 11/11 Peoria Javelinas @ Salt River Rafters

Three Padres prospects are in the starting nine for this Memorial Day matchup between the Javs and Rafters.

If you're jonesing for a baseball fix, MLB Network has you covered tonight. Starting at 6:05 pm PT, you can tune in to MLBN for a live broadcast of the Arizona Fall League's matchup between the Peoria Javelinas and Salt River Rafters. Jim Callis and Paul Severino will be on the call for the AFL contest.

The starting lineup for the Javs includes three Padres minor leaguers, including two who rank in the Padres' Top 30 prospects according to MLB.com. Outfielder Nick Torres, a fourth-round pick (117th overall) out of Cal Poly in the 2014 Draft, split time between Lake Elsinore and Fort Wayne in his first full year as a professional ballplayer in 2015. The 22-year-old hit .305 with five home runs in 129 combined games, and earned an All-Star nod in the low-A Midwest League. MLB.com ranks him 21st among Padres prospects.

Coming in at 15th on that list is second baseman Fernando Perez, drafted out of Central Arizona Junior College in the 2012 draft - 3rd round, 102nd overall. Perez was born in San Diego (Chula Vista), but grew up in Mexico before returning to the States for high school. The lefty batter spent all of 2015 in Lake Elsinore, hitting .224 with 10 home runs in 113 games with the Storm.

Gabriel Quintana, who signed with San Diego in 2009 as a non-drafted free agent, will also make the start for Peoria tonight. In 2015 he played 10 games with the Double-A San Antonio Missions and 117 games with the Storm, combining for a .250 average and 16 homers.
