Game 162 Preview: 10/04 Padres @ Dodgers

It's a bullpen day.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Padres close out their 2015 season this afternoon with their series finale at Dodger Stadium. And it's going to be a bullpen day on the mound as the team hopes to get some last looks at guys who could make the 2016 World Series Padres roster.

Instead of James Shields making his scheduled start, interim manager Pat Murphy will give the ball over to the Padres bullpen, with Frank Garces kicking things off with his first Major League start. It'll be a short one, however, as Garces is scheduled to pitch just one inning against L.A. The Friars will try to avoid a sweep to end their season after conceding the series to the Dodgers with last night's loss.

On the hill for Los Angeles will be Clayton Kershaw, who is six strikeouts away from a 300-K season. The Dodgers have already clinched home field advantage in the NLDS with their win last night, and they don't plan on keeping Kershaw in the game very long - three or four innings only - but he'll still be chasing number 300 against the Padres.
