Almost exactly a year ago San Diego County Supervisors approved $7,500 to purchase highway signs to memorialize Tony Gwynn along a stretch of I-15. Bureaucrats in Sacramento had to surely approve a raise for themselves first then they got around to approving the Gwynn effort, which apparently took them just shy of year.
Finally we learn the dedication will happen on this coming Monday at 10:30 am. If you want to attend the public ceremony it will take place on the top floor of the MTS parking structure at the Sabre Springs/Penasquitos Transit Station.
Dedication set for Tony Gwynn Memorial Freeway | SanDiegoUnionTribune.com
Assemblyman Brian Maienschein, Alicia Gwynn and family members on Monday will dedicate the new Tony Gwynn Memorial Freeway, a stretch of Interstate 15 from Scripps Poway Parkway to Camino Del Norte near his longtime home in Poway.
It looks like Gwynn's section of the freeway will intersect with Ted Williams Parkway, which is fitting since their paths crossed in life when they were the greatest living hitters. I'm not sure if this is the type of thing you take off work for, but maybe you get an early lunch if you work in the area.
