Today was most likely the final game in a Padre uniform for Ian Kennedy, and he made it a gem. In six innings of work, he gave up just one run on five hits and a walk. He also struck out eleven Brewers. Some nice hitting from Yangervis Solarte and Cory Spangenberg gave him a solid lead to work with, and three scoreless innings from the bullpen sent off the 2015 season on a high note.
Spangenberg drew a walk to start the third inning, and Solarte hit a bomb into the right field porch to give the Friars the only runs they would need. But they did add one more in the fourth just for good measure. Derek Norris and Alexi Amarista both drew walks, and Spangenberg made his second hit of the afternoon a RBI single. The one run Kennedy gave up came in the sixth inning, when Stephen Peterson hit a pinch-hit homer to dead center field.
The boys head up to Los Angeles tomorrow for their final series of the season. Casey Kelly will toe the rubber at 7:10 PM.
