Everth Cabrera has been in quite a bit of trouble in the past two years. In 2012 he was charged with domestic abuse by his wife, then in 2013 he was suspended in the biogenisis scandal and now he's been busted for driving while high on the marijuana.
The DUI arrest happened out on Campo Road in Jamul at the Border Patrol Checkpoint.
A rep for the California Highway Patrol confirms ... U.S. border patrol agents initially made contact with the 27-year-old near a checkpoint on the 94 Freeway around 12:30 AM.
We're told the agents suspected something was wrong -- and contacted the CHP to check things out.
After CHP arrived to the scene, deputies were convinced Cabrera was under the influence of marijuana and arrested him for DUI.
Everth is currently on the DL with an injured hamstring, so we'll see if he tries to use the ol' medical marijuana excuse.
According to Brady over at Lobshots there's much more to the TMZ's version of the story. Check his timeline for the whole thing or go to lobshots.com for the consolidated version. It begins with...
There's a lot more to this Everth Cabrera story that TMZ didn't report. A lot more. Like, he wasn't even driving his own car.— Brady Phelps (@LobShots) September 5, 2014
...and gets crazy after that.
"We were made aware of an incident involving Everth Cabrera this week, and we take this matter very seriously. We are in the process of gathering information and are in communication with Major League Baseball. We refrain from further comment at this time."
But I can’t fathom ever putting my family in a position where I decided to get behind the wheel of a random car where I’m high as a kite… so high that I thought it was a good idea to stop my car in the middle of a freeway lane, get out, walk around on a double-yellow line, and when I was confronted by authorities… I threatened to cut their balls off if they touched me or tried to put me in a patrol car. Think about that. Let that simmer.
