Joe Wieland closes out 2014 home stretch opposite Yohan Flande

Our Padres failed to extend their winning streak to six games last night as they fell 3-2 to even up the series, so tonight they'll close out their 2014 home schedule with their rubber match against the Rockies.

Joe Wieland his second start of the season after lasting just 2 1/3 innings on September 6th. That game, in which he got a no-decision, took place in Colorado where he yielded four runs on seven hits against these Rockies. Since then, he's made two appearances out of the bullpen, allowing a combined two runs on six hits in 3 2/3 total innings.

Colorado will send to the mound their third lefty of the series, Yohan Flande, who will be making his second consecutive start after five straight relief outings. It'll be his 10th major league start overall, however, and he's still seeking his first win after going 0-5 in his first nine. Last Thursday he kept the Diamondbacks to two runs on two hits as the Rockies went on to win, but he didn't end up with the decision and was kept on a pitch count which brought him out of the game after five innings. Flande's only career outing against our Padres was a start on August 12th. He gave up two runs, lasted only four innings, and was tagged with the loss.

The final home game of the season kicks off at 6:10 PT tonight.
