The Padres had Thursday night off, so I called the El Paso Chihuahuas in to pinch-hit, and made a game thread for their game against the Salt Lake Bees. One set of eyes it caught were those of Tim Hagerty, the radio voice of the Chihuahuas. He gave Gaslamp Ball a shout-out in the first inning, mentioning the thread, and then again in the third.
By the middle of the sixth inning, I had been joined in the comments section by Friar Fever for a couple innings, and both of us had made remarks about the broadcast using good songs for return-from-commercial bump music. When they came back from commercial to begin the bottom of the sixth, Hagerty said that he liked we were enjoying their music choices, and to post requests for clean songs in the comments. We were flabbergasted, and each suggested one song. I can't speak for Friar Fever, but I didn't know what to expect. I thought maybe they'd toss one of our songs in later or something. What did happen is that they basically let us DJ the rest of the game.
I was going to request just one, but they kept on playing songs we were talking about. Here's the full playlist of songs they played for us by the time the game was over:
- Hakuna Matata
- Outta My Head by Fastball
- Renegade by Styx
- Walk Hard by Dewey Cox
- theme song to Magnum P.I.
- theme song to Kids in the Hall
- Party All The Time by Eddie Murphy
- Word Up by Cameo
The last one was Dex's selection. You can guess who requested each of the others, or go check out the thread and watch how it unfolded. Oh, and the Chihuahuas won an absolutely thrilling game, but I'll tell you about that in the recap.
Thank you once again to Tim Hagerty and all of the crew for such a fun evening, and for all of the excellent work you do day-in and day-out.
