07/04 Padres Preview: Game 86 vs. Giants

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Fresh off a three-game sweep of the Reds, our Padres continue their homestand against a team they almost swept just a couple weeks ago as the Giants come to Petco Park looking to get back in the win column after losing their last two games.

Eric Stults gets the ball in the series opener seeking his first win since May 10th, or at the very least an end to his streak of six losses in six starts. The lefty is 2-11 with a 5.36 ERA this season, but one of his wins came against these Giants back in April. He tossed six innings of one-run ball, giving up only three hits and issuing no walks. Last season he made six starts against San Francisco, going 2-2 while posting a 5.91 ERA.

On the mound for the Giants will be Tim Hudson, who will be looking to bounce back against the Friars after suffering his first home loss of the season against them last month. But Hudson is 5-1 with a 1.75 ERA in his last eight outings against San Diego. He'll try to get the Giants back on track after a recent stretch of baseball that made them drop to second place in the division after holding up the top spot for a majority of the season.

Game time for the Fourth of July matchup is set for 3:40 PDT.
