Game Thread: 07/28 Padres @ Braves

Stan Liu-USA TODAY Sports

Hey, guys. Sorry I've been slacking on here lately, and I completely forgot just how early today's game was.

Anyway, we should have an interesting series finale. Jason Lane was called up to make the start today, which I think is just amazing. The 37-year-old former outfielder will be the oldest pitcher to make his major league starting debut since Troy Percival (38 years old) in 2007. You go, Jason Lane! The reason he is getting the start today is because Ian Kennedy was scratched with oblique soreness. But you should ask Corey Brock why Kennedy was REALLY scratched.

Ervin Santana will take the hill for the Braves and try to win his third straight start while locking up the series for Atlanta. He is 1-0 in two career starts against our Friars, but the last time he faced them was in 2012 while sporting an Angels uniform.

Now let's have some breakfast baseball fun. Tell me in the comments what you had / are having for your most important meal of the day. Remember, if you think you skipped breakfast - you're wrong. That just means your lunch is your breakfast. Breakfast is everything and it's all around us, folks.

Today's Lineups

SAN DIEGO PADRES ATLANTA BRAVES
Alexi Amarista - SS Jordan Schafer - CF
Yangervis Solarte - 3B Phil Gosselin - 2B
Seth Smith - RF Freddie Freeman - 1B
Yasmani Grandal - C Justin Upton - LF
Tommy Medica - LF Jason Heyward - RF
Yonder Alonso - 1B Evan Gattis - C
Jedd Gyorko - 2B Chris Johnson - 3B
Will Venable - CF Andrelton Simmons - SS
Jason Lane - LHP Ervin Santana - RHP

See that 2B? Gyorko was reactivated this morning. He had been out since June 4th trying to heal the plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Hopefully he'll be back to his 2013 self now, or at least close to it. To make room for Gyorko, the Padres placed Carlos Quentin on the 15-day DL with - SURPRISE! - a sore knee.

GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!!
