It's the broken record of the Padres 2014 season. Phenomenal pitching, no run support, low scoring game, a loss. Today we got to see Odrisamer Despaigne pitch a hell of a game against a very hot Clayton Kershaw. Both went back and forth, Despaign striking out 7 and Kershaw snagging 11.
If you hadn't heard, Kershaw had a bit of a streak going into today's game. Here's how that went:
JUN 02 Chicago White Sox - 0 RUNS
JUN 08 Colorado Rockies - 0 RUNS
JUN 13 Arizona Diamonbacks - 0 RUNS
JUN 18 Colorado Rockies - 0 RUNS
JUN 24 Kansas City Royals - 0 RUNS
JUN 29 St. Lous Cardinals - 0 RUNS
JUL 04 Colorado Rockies - 0 RUNS
JUL 10 San Diego Padres - 1 RUN
GEE NOT SO HOT NOW.
That Padre run came in the form of an aired home run into left center, followed by a chorus of Dodger boos.
That was only Headley's 7th HR on the season, but it was a good one.
For a lot of reasons.
This was also Odrisamer's fourth start, and so far the Dodgers are the only team that have managed to score more than one run off of him. He hadn't walked a single batter all night and milked 10 ground-outs off the Doyers. Despaigne is now sitting pretty on a 1.35 ERA.
The good guys will try again tomorrow to even up the score. This is one out of four, so we still have plenty of time to hurt LA in other ways. Hot Jesse Hahn will get that opportunity to pin down the Dodgers' lineup tomorrow against Dan Haren.
