With Andrew Cashner hitting the 15-day DL, Odrisamer Despaigne will get his chance in the bigs, making his major league debut tonight against the Giants. So far in his first year playing ball in the United States, Despaigne has gone 1-3 with a 5.46 ERA in seven starts between San Antonio and El Paso.
Pitching for SF is a guy on the other end of the spectrum in his major league career. The Giants will send Matt Cain to the mound in the series opener at AT&T Park. He'll try to turn the Giants' luck around and end their losing streak at six games. But as much as his team has been struggling recently, Cain has had it just as bad, if not worse. He is winless over his last four outings, the last of which was the most inefficient start in what's been an awful season for the right-hander. He gave up eight runs on ten hits in a loss to the White Sox last Tuesday. But Cain has never had the best luck pitching against the Friars. He is 7-12 with a 3.04 ERA in 32 career starts against San Diego.
Tune in for Despaigne's major league debut and to see if our Padres can continue causing trouble for Cain. Game time at AT&T Park is at 7:15 PDT.
