Streakers rushed the field at Petco Park yesterday

Denis Poroy

Some people really hate streakers. One of those people is Ted Leitner.

Leitner went on a rant yesterday, when two ran out onto the field. He compared them to criminals that flee cops in a car chase and endanger bystander's lives.  I don't think that's the best analogy.  From his description he said they stripped out of their clothes and ran naked, but that wasn't the case, at least for the second person shown in this 10 News video.  I wasn't at the game so I didn't see the first guy.

The man was the second person to jump on the field during the game. Two security guards tackled him while he tried, with only partial success, to hold up his pants.

I say the punishment for streakers should be a stockade near the ballpark exit. No jail time, no fine.  If you strip naked then you get put in the stocks naked covered only with a Padres beach towel to protect children from seeing your dirty bits.

The main complaint about streakers seems to be that they slow down the game, but nobody seems to care about how slow the game is without streakers.  I don't see the players rushing to the batter's box, managers hustling to the mound, TV stations asking for shorter commercial breaks or the umpire trying to keep the game on schedule.  If they're not concerned about those things then I'm not concerned about a streaker once or twice a season.
