Our Padres won three straight to end the homestand with a 5-5 record. They enjoyed an off day yesterday and tonight they'll begin a three-game series with the Reds at Great American Ballpark.
Andrew Cashner is set to make the start in the series opener and hopes the offense can keep their production up. The right-hander is only 2-5 on the season despite putting together some fantastic outings. Four times out of his eight starts, he's gotten no run support. But he's only given up 19 runs (16 earned) to opponents while going 50 1/3 innings on the mound.
Cashner is coming off his worst start of the season, however. He only lasted four innings against the Royals at home while allowing four runs, though only two were earned as the defense behind him committed two errors in the first inning.
Hopefully Cashner will have some better luck against the Reds today and the offense can continue to mash as they face Mike Leake. The righty has matched Cashner's inning total this season, but has made one less start. He's also allowed 19 runs this year. Leake hasn't had much offensive backing lately either, receiving only four runs of support over his last three starts, resulting in an 0-2 record in that span. But he has been a consistent member of the Cincinnati rotation, pitching into at least the 7th inning in each of his seven starts.
Tune in at 4:10 PDT when the action gets underway in Cincy.
