Andrew Cashner has already made an appearance in this series, in an unexpected way. But this morning he'll face the Nationals on the mound as he makes the start in game 3, less than a day after the Nats evened up the series with an 11-1 win. Cashner has been terrific most of the season, but is coming off a relatively rough start against the Giants. He gave up four runs in six innings of work, taking his second loss of the year. But in each of the four starts prior to that, he hadn't allowed more than two runs while pitching a total of 28 1/3 innings. In his only career start in the nation's capital, Cashner only lasted two innings, surrendering six runs to tie a career high.
The Nats will send Tanner Roark to the mound. The righty is coming off his best start of the season, which consisted of 6 2/3 scoreless innings against the Angels. Overall this year, he is 1-0 with a 3.80 ERA in 23 2/3 innings of work.
A win today would give the Padres a lead in the series and set them up for the series victory on Sunday. Join us at 10:05 PDT for some Saturday morning breakfast baseball!
