Yesterday Los Angeles radio host David Vassegh asked Tony Gwynn Jr. about his father's health.
"He's doing alright. You know I think the reports are new to everyone else, but for the most part, as far as cancer is concerned, he's doing a lot better. The fight is going his way right now. Really what's happened lately is his immune system is beat up from all the treatments and he needs a break. I think he's going to get that and I think he's going to be just fine."
Tony Gwynn Jr. also talked to Darren Smith earlier in the week about his dad.
He's doing good. He's going through his treatments and just trying to get healthy, trying to get his immune system back up.
I talked to him about 2 days ago and he seemed in really good spirits. For me, not being able to see him, that's all I have to rely on. He seemed like he was in a good place. I'm going to assume he's doing well from the way he sounded talking on the phone.
He said that Gwynn Sr. was looking forward to the day when he can return as head coach of the San Diego State Aztecs.

"I'm on the mend and looking forward to getting back to the team," Gwynn said in a statement released by the school. "The team is playing well and I want to thank Mark and John for their efforts that have helped lead to the squad's current successful season."
