Even though Carlos Quentin and his rickety knees are perpetually causing him to be sidelined, it still caught me off guard hearing this afternoon's news from Bud Black. Word is, there's a pretty good chance Quentin will start the season on the disabled list.
The reason why I'm surprised is that the only news we'd been hearing about Quentin over the past month was about how good he's been feeling. He was a walking, talking Spring Training cliche. He felt great, he lost weight and put on muscle, he took time to heal over the offseason. It was all there and now it's gone.
Every season preview for the Padres includes the caveat, "if the team stays healthy...". Well that's proving to be a big "if". As Corey Block tweets below, the final roster decisions will be delayed until they know more about that Quentin knee. I swear it's embedded right in my crotch, anyway that how it feels after hearing the news.
Carlos Quentin is a candidate for the DL, Bud Black says.

The #Padres will push position player roster decisions until they know more about Carlos Quentin's left knee. DL is a possibility, says BB.
