- Preller says the Padres have a good foundation with their top three pitchers of Andrew Cashner, Tyson Ross and Ian Kennedy. In the past few months he's been focused on hiring staff, coaches and player personnel.
- The Padres are expecting some players to bounce back offensively next season. He points to the second half of last season, where their play had already started to improve. They are looking to add to their core.
- Jedd Gyorko is versatile but they consider him a second basemen.
- Going into Spring Training Alexi Amarista and Clint Barmes will battle for the shortstop position. Trea Turner will play in high A or AA. Turner has been working on his conditioning and putting on weight.
- Although Josh Johnson didn't play last season he's been able to get to know the Padres staff and there a mutual interest to work together.
- Preller just wants to make good decisions and good deals. He's okay trading within the NL West.
- The Padres' payroll will depend a lot on what happens in the next few weeks.
