1st Inning
Padres did nothing cool.
It was not a perfect inning for Andrew. Todd Frazier started the Reds rally with a double to the wall. Joey Votto drove him in with a single to center. Brandon Phillips singled as well, but the Padres escaped the inning after 2 outs were recorded by Alexi Amarista in the center field warning track.
Reds 1-0
2nd Inning
Padres did nothing cool.
After allowing a single to Arroyo, Cashner got Shin-Soo Choo to strike out for the 3rd out and Cashner’s first K of the day.
3rd Inning
Padres did nothing cool.
After a 4 pitch walk to Todd Frazier, Joey Votto sent a deep drive to left field. Will Venable got on his horse and ran all the way to the wall. Unfortunately, Will lost it in the Cincinnati sky and the ball went off the wall to give Votto an RBI triple. After an out by Brandon Phillips, an RBI double from Jay Bruce scored Votto. Cashner was then able to get the last 2 outs via groundout.
Reds 3-0
4th Inning
Padres get their first hit of the game with a single from Chase Headley.
5th Inning
Padres get their first run of the game with a deep drive to left field by Logan Forsythe. It was Forsythe’s 5th homer of the year.
Joey Votto started off the inning by drawing a walk. After 2 outs, the Reds began scoring again. Chris Heisey doubled to score Votto. Zack Cozart singled to score Heisey after an error by Logan Forsythe.
Reds 5-1
6th Inning
Chase Headley got his 2nd single of the game.
Tim Stauffer entered the game in relief of Cashner. Not the good outing for Andrew today. In his 5 innings, he allowed 7 hits and 5 runs (3 earned) while giving up 4 walks and compiling only 3 strikeouts. Todd Frazier got on base again with a single and was brought home by a Brandon Phillips home run to left.
Reds 7-1
8th Inning
Will Venable is good at baseball. The proof is in the grass over the centerfield wall. A home run to straightaway center gives Venable his team leading 14th home run this season. 2 more and we’ll throw him a party.
Reds 7-2
9th Inning
Last shot for a run parade. Jedd Gyorko and Mark Kotsay each grounded out to the left side of the infield for the first 2 outs. Logan Forsythe singled to begin the rally, but the rally ended with a Nick Hundley strikeout.
Reds 7-2
It just was not a good game today. While 2 home runs for the Padres is good, they were both solo shots and accounted for the only extra base hits. Tomorrow, the Padres look to end this 3 game losing streak with a win by sending Tyson Ross to the mound to face Tony Cingrani. Win that game, Padres!
