08/03 Padres Preview: Game 110 vs. New York

Tyson Ross faces Ivan Nova in game 2 against the Yankees at Petco Park.

The Padres opened up their series against the Yankees last night with a decisive 7-2 victory. Tonight they'll look to secure their fourth consecutive series win and at least stay within half a game of third place in the NL West.

Tyson Ross will take the mound in game 2 and try to do what Andrew Cashner did last night: win his third straight start. Ross has given up just one run on five hits while striking out 13 batters in 14 innings over his two starts since being recalled from Triple-A Tucson towards the end of July. His most recent was a career-high eight-inning gem of scoreless three-hit baseball. The righty had a rough outing against the Yankees last season as a pitcher for the Athletics. He was tagged for six runs on 12 hits (three of which were home runs) in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Slated to start for the Yankees will be right-hander Ivan Nova. He is coming off two straight losses, though only because his offense was shut out both times. Nova has been outstanding lately, posting a 2.03 ERA while limiting batters to a .188 average in his last four starts.

Follow along starting at 5:40pm this afternoon to see if San Diego can put together another strong performance.
