Padres 3, Cubs 2: Marathon Men

13 was looking like the Padres unlucky number when Ronny Cedeño came up big.

Andrew Cashner pitched a stellar game today, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out seven in seven scoreless innings. But he didn't pick up a win. Neither did Luke Gregerson, Huston Street, Luke Vincent, or Brad Brach, who combined for five scoreless frames. After all that, you would think that giving up two runs would have etched a loss in stone for Brad Boxberger. You'd be wrong. Down by two runs in the bottom of the 13th with two out, Ronny Cedeño hit an RBI triple then scored on a wild pitch from Kevin Gregg. Nick Hundley came up with some heroics of his own in the 15th, hitting a two out walkoff single to score Logan Forsythe from second.

This was a long, grueling game, and there were plenty of times where the Cubs could have done serious damage, but they went a whopping 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position. The pitching staff allowed just eight hits and seven walks in fifteen innings. Somebody buy these guys a drink.

Our boys are on a late but happy flight to Phoenix right now, where Tyson Ross will take on Brandon McCarthy at 6:40 PM.
