The Padres will welcome the Yankees to Petco Park for the first time ever this weekend. The two teams will kick off their three-game series tonight as Andrew Cashner toes the rubber opposite New York's CC Sabathia.
Cashner is 7-5 on the season with a 3.88 ERA, averaging 94 pitchers per start and the Padres are 4-3 in his home outings this season. He will go for his third win in as many starts tonight as he faces the Yankees for the first time in his career. In each of his last two games, he's given up three runs in six innings, combining for seven hits allowed.
Sabathia hasn't done as well. He's allowed seven earned runs in each of his last two and has gone 0-3 with a 7.38 ERA while the Yankees have lost his last four. The lefty, however, has had success against the Padres in the past. Though he hasn't pitched against them since 2008, he is undefeated (3-0) with a 2.12 ERA in his four career starts against them.
