08/16 Padres Preview: Game 122 vs. New York

Jamie Sabau

San Diego couldn't give Tyson Ross the run support he needed last night. They'll get a chance to even up the series tonight as they send their newest teammate, Ian Kennedy, to the mound for his third Padres start. And Kennedy might just be the right guy to get the team back in the win column. The right hander is 4-0 in five career starts against the Mets and hopes to remain undefeated against them after tonight's matchup. He is coming off  a strong win against the Reds in Cincinnati, where he gave up just two runs on three hits in eight innings of work.

His opponent tonight will be Jon Niese, who is making his second start since returning from the DL for a torn rotator cuff. He gave up four runs in six innings in his first start back to earn the victory over the Diamondbacks. Niese has a lifetime 2-2 record against the Padres. His last time facing them was this season's Opening Day in New York, where he allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings as the Mets when on to win 11-2.

The Padres go for just their fourth win in 11 tries tonight, beginning at 7:10.
