08/13 Padres Preview: Game 119 @ Colorado

Eric Stults will try to help the Padres bounce back from an abysmal outing yesterday.

USA TODAY Sports

The Padres started off the series on the worst foot possible yesterday. Today Eric Stults will take the mound and try to help the team bounce back from one of the worst games of the season.

Stults already has two victories against the Rockies under his belt this season and he'll go for the trifecta in game 2. In July he pitched a complete game while limiting Colorado to just one run on four hits in a win at home. A month prior, he tossed seven solid innings at Coors Field, giving up just two runs (one earned). The Padres will need another strong outing from the southpaw as they look to rebound from a disastrous series opener. Stults also needs to rebound from some forgetful outings of his own, however. Since the All-Star Break, the left-hander has gone 0-3 in four starts, giving up 11 earned runs (17 runs total) while allowing batters to hit .318. He's especially struggled on the road, dropping four straight away games while posting an 8.05 ERA.

The Padres, who have scored just 13 combined runs over their last six games, will try to avoid their sixth consecutive loss today as they face Rockies starter Jeff Manship. The righty, who is filling in for the injured Tyler Chatwood, gave up two runs on four hits in five innings of work when he made his first spot start for Chatwood last week. He'll make his first career outing against San Diego as he tries to secure the series win for Colorado.
