08/12 Padres Preview: Game 118 @ Colorado

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODA

The Padres closed out their three-game set in Cincinnati with a rough loss in extra innings Sunday, and thus a series loss. They'll try to get back in the win column tonight as they continue their road trip at Coors Field in Colorado. They'll face a Rockies team fresh off a series win over the NL-Central-leading Pittsburgh Pirates while regaining the edge and the 3rd place spot in the NL West.

Slated to make the start in the series opener tonight is Edinson Volquez. The righty had given up just four runs total in his last two starts while tossing a combined 12 1/3 innings. However, he didn't have the best luck his last time pitching at Coors Field. He was hammered for nine runs on 11 hits in only 2 1/3 innings of work.

His opponent tonight will be Jhoulys Chacin, who's gone 4-1 with a 2.83 ERA over his last six starts at home. He's also gone 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA in his last seven against San Diego. He'll try to help the surging Rockies to their eighth win in ten games.

Tonight's series opener on Colorado is set to begin at 5:40pm.
