07/09 Padres Preview: Game 91 vs. Colorado

Eric Stults and Jhoulys Chacin take the mound in the middle game of the series.

USA TODAY Sports

The Padres were unable to snap their losing streak last night as pitching continued to struggle. Tonight they hope Eric Stults can break the trend and throw some shutout innings against the Rockies. The southpaw faces his former team in the middle game of the series and will try to repeat his success from the last time he pitched against them. He held them to two runs (one earned) in seven innings to bring good all time record against Colorado to 2-0. Stults hasn't been that good in recent starts however. Over his last two outings he's given up a combined ten runs in eight total innings, giving him his first pair of consecutive losses this season. However those were both on the road and he has been dominant at home lately, going 3-0 in his last five at Petco Park.

His counterpart Jhoulys Chacin will be making his fourth start against the Padres this season after going 2-0 on his first three. Most recently, though, he allowed five runs in 5 1/3 innings and was given a no-decision in the loss. The right-hander has posted a 2.10 ERA in his last five outings and hasn't lost since May 16th, a stretch of nine starts. However he's coming off a game in which he gave up four runs on a season-high nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.
