Everth Cabrera facing a 50 game suspension as Bosch agrees to cooperate with MLB

Remember back in Spring Training when we learned that Everth Cabrera too was receiving suspicious PED like substances through the mail from the notorious Bosch clinic? Well now Tony Bosch, the guy who once denied sending PEDs all over the league, has agreed to a deal in which he will give the MLB his full cooperation.

The development is a major break for MLB, which has pursued the case vigorously since Bosch's name was brought to MLB's attention last summer. In exchange for Bosch's full cooperation, sources said, Major League Baseball will drop the lawsuit it filed against Bosch in March, indemnify him for any liability arising from his cooperation, provide personal security for him and even put in a good word with any law enforcement agency that might bring charges against him.

With Bosch's help the MLB is looking to suspend 20 players for 50 games. Cabrera is likely one of them, so the Padres and we their fans have that to look forward to.

Now Yasmani Grandal is also listed in Bosch's files, but he's already served his 50 game suspension. He just returned to the team this week. I'm not sure how any of this works, but it seems like he's already served his time and will not be penalized again for the same infraction. If it they are considered two different infractions then Grandal could face a 100 game suspension.

"I haven't heard anything," said Cabrera before Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in L.A.. "I haven't seen any report. I don't know anything about this."

"I really don't think I can comment." said Padres General Manager Josh Byrnes in a statement. "I have no insight into the process or possible ramifications. Anything I would say would be pure speculation at this point."

Informed during his pregame media session about the ESPN report, manager Bud Black said: "I have to look further into it. I will answer when I know more about it."

Flashback

Back in late February Bud Black seemed pretty confident that Cabrera's part in the scandal would not lead to a suspension.
