Yesterday, Jedd Gyorko left the extra innings game with the Rockies for unknown reasons. Turns out his groin was bothering him and after taking some time to assess it the team has placed him on the 15 day disabled list. To replace him on the roster, the team will reinstate Logan Forsythe from the 60 DL. In order to make room for Forsythe on the 40 man roster, John Baker was designated for assignment.
The @padres reinstate INF Logan Forsythe from 60-day DL; place INF Jedd Gyorko (right groin strain) on 15-day DL; DFA catcher John Baker.

Gyorko's bat will be missed while he's out for the next two weeks.
Bud Black had shown a lot of confidence in the rookie's hitting ability and had even placed him in the Chase Headley's #3 spot in the order while last year's team MVP took a day off. To try to fill the void the Padres will use a combination of the newly recalled Logan Forsythe (affectionately called The Aristocrat around these parts) and Alexi Amarista (over affectionately lusted after in these parts). Forsythe's hitting strength is against left handing pitching and Amarista's is against right handing pitching so it should work out okay for the next couple of weeks. Forsythe was basically hitting the cover off of the ball during his rehab stint in Tucson so it will be exciting to see what he can deliver in the big leagues now that he has returned. John Baker, on the other hand, was still struggling to produce at the plate after his demotion to AAA. Even if Yasmani Grandal or Nick Hundley were to miss time and need a replacement it wasn't guaranteed that Baker would be the team's first choice callup since Rene Rivera is hitting over .300 in Tucson and has previous major league experience.
