Padres 1, Marlins 0: Jason Marquis Shuts Down Fish

The Padres completed their sweep of the Marlins behind Jason Marquis's impressive start.

Denis Poroy

Break out the brooms, folks! The Padres just racked up their third sweep of the season. They've now won or split their last four series and hit the road just two games under .500. The offense didn't rack up the runs like they have the last couple games, but it didn't matter. Jason Marquis shut the Marlins down for 8 innings. The Marlins only had 4 hits, and all but one of those were singles. For you three true outcomes types, Marquis only gave up one walk and struck out three. His ERA is now a very respectable 3.48. As an added bonus, Huston Street came out looking like his old self, sending the Marlins down in order, striking out the last two batters for his 8th save of the season. Who's ready for some fish tacos?

7th Inning

Will Venable scored on a Yonder Alonso sacrifice fly. That's it. One run. Nothing else. As pure as a pitchers duel gets.

Final: 1-0 Padres

The bad news is that tomorrow's an off day. The worse news is that the Padres will be using a designated hitter for their next five games, as they visit the Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles. Interleague play starts at 4:10 PM Friday when Edinson Volquez takes on Alex Cobb.
