The Padres were able to hold on to the win last night in the series opener against the Diamondbacks. Tonight they'll try to keep their win streak going behind Clayton Richard, who is still seeking his first win of the season. It's been a rough year for Richard, collecting three losses and struggling to remain consistent at the plate while posting a 7.94 ERA. The Padres have only won one of his starts this year, but tonight they'll have history on their side. Richard is undefeated (6-0) in eight career starts against Arizona. The Diamondbacks are batting just .267 lifetime against him and have lost each of his last six starts.
Patrick Corbin hasn't had the same success in his short history against the Padres. He went 0-2 in three appearances (two starts) against them in his 2012 rookie season, in which Padres hit .358 against him. But Corbin has been great to start off his sophomore season. He's gone 3-0 and the Diamondbacks have won each of his five starts. He hasn't gone less than six innings or allowed more than two runs in a start this season and ranks 12th in the league in ERA at 1.91.
A win tonight would be the Padres' sixth straight at home, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since 2010. They've won seven of their last nine games to improve to 12-17 coming into tonight's meeting. They've also won 11 of their last 13 matchups with Arizona, who now rides a four-game losing streak.
