Game 54 Preview: Padres v. Blue Jays

Thirty Helens agree: The San Diego Padres are going to beat the Toronto Blue Jays. The Friars are five games below .500 while the Jays are eight under. Also, the Padres pretty much always win on May 31.

Chad Jenkins will be making his third start of the season for Toronto. He gave up two earned runs over five innings while only striking out a pair in each of his previous starts, a win over Boston and a no decision against Baltimore. A look at his BR page revealed that his full name is Stephen Chadwick Jenkins. I wonder if he goes by his middle name because he doesn't want to be confused for the singer of Third Eye Blind.

Jason Scott Marquis doesn't have a rockstar name but he does have a 6-2 record. He allowed four earned runs in just 3.1 innings in his last start, a no decision at Arizona. It was his shortest outing of the year and only the third time in his ten starts that he allowed more than a pair of runs.

The Padres haven't been on top of their game the second half of the month after a torrid first half. It would be nice to head into Shaving Day on a high note. As long as we're talking about stuff that would be nice to happen, it sure would be swell if Jedd Gyorko hit his seventh home run of the month to have the Padres' rookie record of homers in May all to himself. And since you're supposed to get three wishes, I guess I'd like a cheddarwurst or for Alexi to pull a Steve Lyons at first base. Either would be just fine.
