Tyson Ross had his first start of the season tonight and didn't show a lot of command. He threw lots and lots of pitches and most of them were either fouled off, spiked into the ground or left up in the zone. Bud Black pulled him in the bottom of the 5th inning. I watched the first few innings on TV then switched to radio and went for a run. Both sets of broadcasters were really complimentary of Tyson's "stuff" but critical of his control.
1st Inning
The first inning was ugly but Tyson managed to escape by only allowing one run. The run came with runners at the corners and a line drive single by Michael Cuddyer. It could have been a lot worse and later it would be.
1-0 Rockies
4th Inning
The Padres tied the score in the 4th. Carlos Quentin doubled to center field. Yonder Alonso followed with a bloop single that advanced Quentin to 3B. Jedd Gyorko walked to load the bases. Alexi Amarista grounded out scoring Quentin. Cameron Maybin killed any chance of a rally by grounding into a double play.
1-1
5th Inning
Tyson Ross walked Dexter Fowler to start the inning. Everth Cabrera made a fielding error just like yesterday. This time the error came when trying to back hand a ground ball. It would prove to be costly, just like yesterday. Brad Brach came into the game in relief and gave up three bloop singles in a row to Carlos Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki and Cuddyer. All of which scored a run.
4-1 Rockies
6th inning
In the 6th inning Quentin doubled again to center. Alonso grounded out advancing Quentin to 3B. Gyorko grounded out to score Quentin.
4-2 Rockies
7th Inning
Andrew Cashner came in in the 7th to replace Dale Thayer. He walked Tulo and again Cuddyer drove in runs, this time with a homer to right.
6-2 Rockies
8th Inning
The Padres showed signs of life in the 8th. Chris Denorfia doubled. After two ground outs Gyorko doubled to right field on a misplayed ball by a diving Cuddyer.
Final: 6-3
